Make a concerted effort to be happy

For some people, being happy and content in life is like pulling teeth, their lives are ever evolving; but inside they are stagnated in some or many the darker parts of their lives. Not that I had it easy, but sometimes I wonder what it would be like to be them. It’s as if having some sort of trauma in a person’s life gives them the right to carry a major chip on their shoulder, well, it doesn’t.
Basically what it comes down to, or at least a place to understand why happiness never comes their way, is that, some people live in their scars, when they should be living outside of their scars.
If we look at our scars as more of an ending point, because that is what a scar is, rather than an excuse, then we might see that there is more life ahead, more chances available to find happiness. Outwardly or Inwardly, scars, if dwelled on; our whole demeanor changes for the worse. We start seeking ways to escape, drugs and alcohol, fighting just to fight, anything and everything becomes an excuse for a pity party; all when it does not have to happen. So look at scars as a healing point, it’s time to move on.

PTSD, the stats are unreal, “70% of adults in the U.S. have experienced some type of traumatic event at least once in their lives. This equates to approximately 223.4 million people, up to 20% of these people go on to develop PTSD. As of today, that equates to approximately 44.7 million people who were or are struggling with PTSD.”

But out of the percentages and numbers of those not represented, how many of those people stepped away from their scars and sought to have betterment in their lives?
Something to think about…

“An estimated 8% of Americans āˆ’ 24.4 million people āˆ’ have PTSD at any given time. That is equal to the total population of Texas. An estimated one out of every nine women develops PTSD, making them about twice as likely as men.”

Texas, that’s the biggest state in America, that’s a big deal when you think about it. But what about the cost to the public, from our losing control of ourselves, to court hearings, family, the ramifications cost the public in some way.

“The annual cost to society of anxiety disorders is estimated to be significantly over $42.3 billion, often due to misdiagnosis and under treatment. This includes psychiatric and non-psychiatric medical treatment costs, indirect workplace costs, mortality costs, and prescription drug costs.
People with PTSD have among the highest rates of healthcare service use. People with PTSD present with a range of symptoms, the cause of which may be overlooked or misdiagnosed as having resulted from past trauma.”

Where are the professional’s?
I said I felt blah because of a cold, my doctor almost broke the sound barrier getting the prescription written for some drug like Prozac. Depression is highly overrated, I declined her efforts. Does she trust my own opinion of my mental state of mind, who knows, I just know that blah is an old word; it’s no where’s near a word driven excuse to prescribe a drug to help me cope with life. Let’s not forget, I was in there for my COPD check up.

“PTSD is recognized as a psychobiological mental disorder than can affect survivors not only of combat experience, but also terrorist attacks, natural disasters, serious accidents, assault or abuse, or even sudden and major emotional losses.”

Those are serious blows to anyone that goes through them, and it is difficult to say how any of us would react to any one of the incidents described above; but there are those in this world that think a tiny splinter that is easily seen and pulled as a traumatic experience, those people used to be considered thin-skinned.
In that respect, how many people are on mind altering drugs that shouldn’t be, all to stave off depression? How are the drug companies doing, it must be hard for them to just break even with all of us arrogant and tough people; somehow I don’t feel sorry for the drug companies, nor some doctors for that matter.

“PTSD is associated with changes in brain function and structure and these changes provide clues to the origins, treatment, and prevention of PTSD. Some cases may be delayed, with only subtle symptoms showing up initially and more severe symptoms emerging months after the traumatic event.”

Not too long ago people were being diagnosed as having a Chemical Imbalance, those two words must be used more in clinical situations these day’s because no one says that anymore, as COPD is for the respiratory illness, PTSD is for the mind, both cover a gambit of reasons and possibilities for their namesakes.
But the one word that stuck out in the above is the word ‘Delayed’, tell some people that it’s going to rain on a sunny summer day, they will run out and buy an umbrella and raincoat; the power of thought is phenomenal. So, why not think of something better, aim for the better in life without expectation; simply put, just keep the good in your life.
If the bad is gone who cares, leave it gone!
Forgiveness, it’s a good place to start clearing out the thoughts you have been dragging around for sometimes many years, if a person really understood just how destructive old thoughts can be. A good way to understand is to stop thinking in the ‘Now’ when pondering our lives, start thinking of the dusty old angers that all of us carry around, then forgive others as well as yourself; if you get anything from this site, it should be that you don’t have to take the bad in life fishing with you.
That person that was living in my house, they cost me a new floor that had just, not even a year ago, been redone; soon there will be another $600.00 added to that cost. The person was a drama seeker, their take on life was toxic and a major reason for my cat having to be put down at 2 years old; and they still owe me back and prorated rent. I could retaliate, but that might cost me more if caught in some criminal act, I could Sue her for the loss in small claims court, / but that would still cost me. So, forgive her, that won’t mean they will be off the hook, and you can bet she will avoid me like the plague; all the while, I am moving on while in her dark hours, her guilt is her pillow. An honest man/woman’s pillow is their peace of mind, otherwise they need a sleep aid.
Forgiveness is a powerful thing, it’s also misunderstood, forgiveness helps the person doing the forgiving; at times more than the person receiving the forgiveness. It clears the mind, allowing better thoughts to enter the mind, and a chance at a better life; there is no reason to carry the burden of anger because some parasitic and toxic person crept into your life.
For a time, maybe even for a long long time, turn off the news and those drama television shows and movie’s; just don’t replace them with moronic shows that carry little in the way of substance. In other words, make it humble and positive entertainment.
Avoid stagnation, you can be the worst painter in the world, go through more canvas than anyone in art school, but if your at peace, becoming better will come in due time. Shoot, it don’t matter, what matters is your inner peace, being productive, that is what matters, can’t get that feeling from sitting on the couch watching television all day; and you will never find that inner peace at the bottom of any bottle or pipe.
Ever wonder why people write letters to the people that they are angry with?
Well we live in a rough tough pansy society, no one can talk without starting an argument; or a self absorbed pity party. Getting something that bothers you taken care of in an adult and responsible manner (without anger or violent retaliation) will help get you in a more peaceful state of mind, and if writing a letter rather than talking helps; then do it, it won’t do any good unless you send it though, just don’t expect a reply. Do Your Best, be humble and mature, non threatening and honest; clear and concise also works well.
Look, it comes down to this, you can feed the addictions and take the prescriptions, but your heart has to be in the cure, learn life no matter your age, emulate the good in your life, and accept only the good in your life; drugs, even through a doctor won’t do you any good if you won’t even try to get to the heart of the matter.
Life is good, end the drama, and; live it for the better that life has to offer.
It comes down to the good that you cherish and keep in your life, and the bad that you leave . . . behind you!

This is not saying that PTSD or Clinical Depresion does not exist, sadly they do. So if you do have a problem, if that problem is becoming too big for the person or the family, then seek help. But never forget, the mind will help to heal most anything in our lives, do not rely on drugs, they are not to be abused or used long-term, prescription drugs are in our lives to help us cope till we can get on with our life drug free and content with life.
